We are proud to introduce Josie ilah Licht

Meg had started to have contractions the day before; however, they weren't really strong and didn't last that long. So, we went to bed thinking that she would be born on the 17th when we were scheduled to induce. Somewhere around 5am, Jackson climbed into bed with Meg and they both fell asleep. Meg remembers rolling over and then "a really warm gush" and then yelled "Eric, Eric OMG my water just broke" and Jacksson just kept saying "Mommy, I just wanted to say I love you." We had to explain to Jackson it wasn't his fault! LOL

So, we had the suitcase packed. We had Rhonda (Mother-in-law) on call and were ready to roll. I just needed to call Rhonda and have her come over.

"Hi, Rhonda? Megs water just broke"
"oh, ok. um, I just need to freshen up a bit and take Jake(her dog) around the block for a walk."
--long pause--
"Are you seriously going to take your dog for a walk???"
Laughing, "WELL, HE's GOT TO POOP!"

Too funny, in our mind we are thinking "this baby could be coming any minute" - and she wasnt' born until 11 hours later!!!

Anyway, Meg was such a champ and handled the whole thing like a pro. She was great about just letting it all happen. They gave the epideral about noon, Meg was about 3 cm and by 5pm she was 10cm.

So, for the next 5 hours I continued to update Facebook, make phone calls, send out IM's, and Skype with friends and family. There was a couple of shopping trips to the Apps Store on my iphone, too.

It's so funny how you wait and wait and wait, then all of the sudden the doctor walks in and says, "this is good, I think we're good. we should start pushing, I'm just going to run to the bathroom and when I get back we can do this." Just like that, it's totally a game-time decision. There is hustle and deliberate action by the nurses during the next 10 minutes to get the warming lamp turned on, bring in the large and ominous cart holding a tray of stainless "instruments" for the doctor. Somewhere, along the way they call in another nurse who we have never met before. Who, we find out will be cleaning, clearing Josie's lungs, and weighing.

After that, we spent the next couple of hours just enjoying Josie and the feelings of relief, joy, satisfaction, and some much needed food!

  1. Congrats to the Lichts!!! I'm so excited for you both. So...what's the verdict on how Jackson likes having a baby sister??
